Kanban in Urban Turtle

In Urban Turtle 3.8, we have improved support for multiple states mapped to each of the task board columns. This enables processes with more than three states to work a lot better than before with Urban Turtle.

While this was somewhat inspired from Kanban, we do not have any current plans to further add Kanban functionalities in the near future.

We'd like to know more about the specific Kanban features that you would like to see in Urban Turtle. Maybe you can convince us to re-think our priorities!

Kanban works better in certain situations then SCRUM. SCRUM board is nothing more then a simple Kanban board. To be able to define more columns and sub-columns, you can model your process other then SCRUM and implement work in progress limits to pull work. This will open up new capabilities for Urban Turtle.

To implement Urban Turtle, you need to have the possibility to have more columns in the task board than today, one column for each workflow state. It must be possible to set a limit of how many items that are allowed in each workflow state. This is the main functionality I miss. The support of Cumulative Flow Diagrams would be nice to have as well, but does not have such a high priority.

I think the biggest challenge with such a functionality would be the process template. Kanban is a tool to optimize the process and it must me possible to change the states often and in an easy way. The tool in TFS to change states in the process template is not very easy. If it was possible to change the states, the order of the states and the work-in-progress-limit of the states with Urban Turtle, it would be great. But this could be difficult to implement I guess. ;-)

Once we can add custom columns, the only thing missing would be to be able to set limits on the columns.

As fluid as a normal Kanban board would be with being able to add new columns, this is a limitation of TFS and how new states need to get added. But, if Urban Turtle is able to provide the basic features of a Kanban board I think a lot of users would be able to get past the TFS limitation.

Would love to have support for "work in progress" WIP limit functionality in Urban Turtle.

We currently working on that feature. Stay tune !
