A single-click would pose a usability issue, but maybe a double-click would do the trick?

Why is there a usability issue? Is single click used for something else than approve and adding tasks?

I think a single click is too close to the drag and multi-select operations. I believe it could become annoying since it would increase the chances of opening the work item editor window by mistake.
